PRINTS AND COMMISSION INFO

COMMISSIONED ARTWORK Commission info
Please read the following information before you contact me! It can save us both a lot of time and trouble. I'm always happy to answer any additional questions you might have.

My rates start at roughly 80 Euros (pencil RPG or similar character portrait, no background); tell me what you'd like, and we'll work out the details!

Shipping:
Within Germany: 1,50 EUR
Within Europe: 3 EUR
To the US and other overseas: 5 EUR

I accept payment via PayPal (money order is fine if you live in Germany; outside Gemany, both of us would not be happy with what they charge for an international money order! Signing up with PayPal (www.PayPal.com) is free, and it's easiest for both parties involved. :)

Please note that payment is due in advance. I used to ask for payment only after the inital sketch, but I learned the hard way that people will just collect a free sketch and then are never seen again. I apologize sincerely for this.

Workflow:

- Send me an email stating what you would like me to draw. Also, if you have decided already, tell me if you'd like me to colour the pic or not. (That will help me to estimate how long it will take me to complete!) It is always possible to colour the pic later on, however, if you decide. This works best with a watercolour shading, but pencil shadings work fine as well.

Shading is done either in watercolour or in pencil. When you contact me and tell me what you'd like, I'll suggest one of the two. Some pics work better in watercolour, others in pencil. Here are two examples:
Pencil
Watercolour

Coloured, they look like this:
Pencil shading coloured
Watercolour shading coloured

- After we've agreed to the specifics of the commission (colour or not, how long it'll take, what it'll cost, and so on), send me the money (plus shipping) to my PayPal account (jenny@goldseven.de). PayPal allows you to denote the payment in Euros from the start, which makes it easier for me.
- I'll draw up a rough sketch of your pic and send it to you via email. At this stage, you can express wishes for changes (please, please, within a certain limit!) I'll then finish the pic or colour it. Colouring will usually be mixed digital/traditional (most of the coloured pics you've seen done by me are). If you wish for any specific medium, ask me about it in your email.
You get a high-res printed version of the picture (A4 size, matte or glossy premium InkJet paper), signed, sent to you in a cardboard-backed envelope. You also get the original pencil/watercolour drawing/shading, whatever was the last stage before I went digital. If you do not order a coloured pic, you get just the original, of course.

During the approval and sketching stages, keep in mind I often sketch loosely and a sketch will not be as detailed as the finished product. To see how I work and what sort of changes you can expect during my work process, take a look at this walkthrough. The *second* sketch in there will be the extent of cleanliness you can expect from a sketch of mine. I can always add detail later if you think there's something missing in the lineart. Only after that it gets tricky. So, don't panic if the sketch isn't as intricate as you thought it would be. :)
Another thing you can see in the sketch is that there may always be minor changes in facial features and expressions between stages--scribble, sketch, lineart, shading, even colour. Please keep that in mind.

Things I will not draw:
- Explicit sex, highly suggestive poses, excessive violence. I teach at a Catholic school, you know. :) I do NOT have a problem with slash; what I do object to is slashing characters that belong to neither you or me (no Aragorn/Legolas, or Harry/Snape, please.)
- Real life likenesses (you, your friends, your family...) If you want your character to look like someone specific, tell me, and I'll bear it in mind; the likeness will not be my prime concern, however.

Please note that I still keep all rights on character art and similar pictures! That is, I may display them on the internet or elsewhere. If you display them, please add a copyright notice (neither of us wants your pic to pop up all over the internet, do we? :)) and link back to me.

Information to include in your character description:

- Physical appearance (eye, hair, skin colour, length/type of hair, build, clothes, equipment)

- Personality--you can add some bits of background info, but try to keep the overall info on your character below two pages! No novels (or excerpts), please. :) Personality is very important to me, however, so that I can portrait your character properly.

- Setting: You can either suggest a setting yourself or let me decide what to do with your character. Personally, I like working with looser, more general background suggestions (forest/swamp/castle/field/sea...) so I can flesh them out myself. Likewise, I like to pick a colour scheme myself. That doesn't mean you can't give me detailed descriptions on either, however! It is possible that I will cautiously try to persuade you from drawing a green-skinned elf riding a violet-scaled dragon before an orange sunset, but if you insist... :)

- I can't look inside your head. When you describe your character, keep in mind I don't know him/her at all. It might help to add descriptions like "his hair is like the one of character xyz in movie xyz" or something like that. Reference pics for looks, colours and, to some degree, style are fine.

Please do not send me entire stories or descriptions that are longer than two pages! I just don't have the time to read them.

The sooner you give me approval for sketches, the sooner I can finish them--Note that I won't finish a pic before I've got your approval!

Prints

You can email me if there's any pic in my gallery you'd like to purchase as a print. Please keep in mind that Harry Potter, Star Wars, Drizzt Do'Urden and Honor Harrington pictures are not eligible for prints--I will not violate any copyrights! Prints come on high quality paper (same size as above), are signed, and sent to you in a cardboard backed envelope. Contact me for details!
