"You'll remember me
when the westwind moves
upon the fields of barley
We'll forget the sun
in its jealous sky
as we walk in fields of gold."
Sting, Fields of Gold
This picture is and has always been special to me. I first read the Silmarillion in the summer of 1993, when this song by Sting came out, and I never imagined anything but Amarië, beloved of Finrod Felagund, grieving for her beloved on the beautiful shores of Aman when I listened to it. I had always wanted to draw this scene but didn't feel up to it back then. Ten years later, it came up on the radio and the picture came into my head full-blown. It was also the first time I tried digitally colouring a black and white watercolour, something I have been doing a lot since then.
